Combined Regional Weekend at Mumbles 28, 29 of March

33 sailors for the West, and 29 sailors for the South, regional squads took to the water at Mumbles Yacht Club, over the weekend of the 28 th of March, supported by over 30 volunteers assisting and running groups both on and off the water!!

The Saturday bought with sunshine and a light breeze, the sailors were divided into oppie, group, (national squad, racing, and improver) and a laser and 420 group.

The days training, ended with the wind, which left paddling, for the fit sailors and towing for the rest, to get back to shore.

Following an evening meal in the club, the National Development Officer, Richard Twining, and The Vice Chairman Chris Basten, talked about the forthcoming events this year, and presented a small prize giving.   Volunteer prizes went to Dai Thomas in the South and Lindi Cook in the West for their outstanding efforts throughout the winter.   Prizes were also given to some sailors that had stood, for being a bit unique!!

Sunday dawned with a gradient wind from the north, which was cancelled by a developing sea breeze from the south, which resulted in no wind just as the sailors hit the water!!

Never the less, The breeze did come, and both regions enjoyed 3 races back to back.   The Sunday was decided to run as a proper event, to give the experience of racing to many of the new regional sailors with lots of boats, before venturing off to the youths in April.

With coach support on the water, every single sailor did exceptionally well, with some close racing throughout every fleet.   In the Topper fleet, regional sailors were chasing hard, and often in front of many of the National squaddies (in the case of Andy and Graham, who beat some overall).   The oppies were also closely fought with Ben Pritchard producing the results.    Well done all.

Look forward to seeing, as many regional sailors as possible at the youths, help is available to get there if necessary, get in touch with your Regional Development Coach!   Coach support will be on the water for all regional sailors at the youths.
